Where is it?
The challenge with quinoa right now has less to do with the availability as it does with our ability to actually find it in the stores that sell it. Every store seems to find a different place to stock the quinoa.
I received a tweet last week from someone who found it on the medicine aisle.
I went to my local Stop and Shop recently so I could see where they stock quinoa and what brands they carry.
Find Quinoa on Rice Aisle
I started with rice because this is the most logical place to stock quinoa. I found only one brand of quinoa, but it comes in all colors – red, black, and white – and it was on sale to boot.
I was sure there had to be more quinoa in the store.
Find Quinoa on Gluten-free Aisle
This store had a gluten-free section where I found two more brands of quinoa. I was happy to see three contest sponsors all together (Ancient Harvest, Eden Organics, Mary’s Gone Crackers).
If you don’t see quinoa on the rice aisle, the gluten-free/special diets aisle is the next best place to check.
Find Quinoa in Bob’s Red Mill Displays
Bob’s Red Mill quinoa can be stocked anywhere in the store that has other Bob’s Red Mill product. I have seen Bob’s Red Mill quinoa on the cereal aisle next to oats and on the baking aisle near flour. I have even seen a Bob’s Red Mill endcap near the bakery in one store.
When I can’t find quinoa anywhere else, I check any aisle I think I might have Bob’s Red Mill products.
Find Quinoa on Ethnic Aisles
This may seem silly because you probably don’t think of quinoa as being Middle Eastern or kosher or anything but natural and South American, but many ethnic food companies purchase quinoa in bulk and package it under their brand names. These quinoa brands are then sold through Mom and Pop grocery stores and/or ethnic shops in larger supermarkets.
While I was at Stop and Shop, I checked a Passover shop that was getting thin but hadn’t yet been taken down. I didn’t see quinoa, but I did see a brand name I know sells quinoa, so it is possible there was quinoa on these shelves earlier in the season.
Health, Fitness, Organic
There are many odd places quinoa may end up in your grocery. These are just a few other places you might find quinoa in a store, particularly if you know a store should have it.
Do you know where to find quinoa in stores near you?

Wow, great site and so much information! I have learned so much.

Many thanks for bothering to line this all out for all of us. This blog post ended up being extremely useful in my opinion.
That was REALLY helpful! I went all over the store looking for it and couldn’t find it. I ended up getting a prepared and seasoned mix in the organic aisle, but I had really wanted it dry and plain. Now I see that I should have checked the gluten free section, which I didn’t. I didn’t even think about that! I can tell from the picture what store that is so I know I can most likely find it there!
Hi Laura,
I am pleased you find it so helpful.
Thanks for commenting!

Thank you so much for posting this article with pictures of boxes…. Very useful…
Excellent job!
Searched for it at Walmart. Didn’t realize it was gluten-free, so I checked rice aisle. Didn’t find it. Will check again! Thanks!
